Benefits Caseload

Counted as households (benefit units), the unit on which Universal Credit is assessed and paid. A single household can contain a couple and their children, so this measure sits below the headcount of individual people on the benefit. When it rises, more households draw on Universal Credit; when it falls, fewer do.
