A&E

The total number of A&E attendances in England each month, across both major units and minor injury units. Attendances swing sharply with the seasons. On their own they measure demand, not performance: whether the system is coping with that demand shows up in the four-hour and twelve-hour waiting measures, not in the raw number arriving.
