Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total value of everything the UK economy produces: every good made, every service sold, every hour of work. Measured in pounds, it is the headline gauge of the country's size. When it grows, the economy is producing more; when it shrinks, less. It is the number politicians reach for when talking about the economy.
